Daily A~Musing I'm BAAAaaaAAAAACK!!!!

Hello my little puddlewackers!  Somehow blogspot has magickally begun working for me again.  My bday wish came true!  Seriously.  I wished for it on the cake my unit gave me for my bday cuz I'm far too lazy to start all over again somewhere else.

Such a taurus, I am.  :D

Daily A~Musing #55: Cherry Pickers

I saw a cherry picker in downtown Auburn this morning on my way into work.  (Cherry Picker=hydra lift, bucket truck, spout, etc.~not to be confused with jackasses who hangout out underneath the basket waiting to get an easy score while the rest of the team sweats out a defense.)  I always smile when I see those cuz they look like so much fun.  (You people who can't stand heights...look away.)
They're way cooler than ladders, yes?  I've seen some construction companies use them in winter to hoist their xmas trees for impressive displays as well.  Pretty handy to have one of your own, apparently.  Of course...I had Tonka trucks when I was little, so they make me think of playing in the dirt with my toys.  (Yup, definitely the quintessential tomboy.  And yet, loved the Barbies.  A mystery, that.)

I'm thinking maybe for my fortieth bday next year, I'll rent one and string it with sparkly lights.  I'll park it somewhere in Ft. Williams park in Cape Elizabeth and hire a swingin' band to play all my fave retro songs while I go-go dance in a lime green tuxedo up high in the air.  Now THAT'S a shindig I KNOW you'll want to attend.

We can have an "all-cherry concoctions" buffet and  bright cherry red balloons.  Yayy!  Ooo!  OOOooo!! And lucky lucky peeps can draw a doorprize of bungee jumping from the platform of the picker!
Wooohoooo!

I am SO making some calls about this tomorrow.

Daily A~Musing #54: Bunnies...Especially the Easter Bunny Cuz He Brings Candy

Yeah, I know.  I'm pagan, right?  So, what's the deal with Easter?  Well, when my son was younger, I didn't want him burned at the stake in the middle of our village, so I made an effort to celebrate Spring Equinox AND Easter so when all his friends talked about what the bunny brought them, he'd have something to contribute to the conversation.  Besides...most Easter symbols are still pagan symbols of life and fertility, so I feel totally comfy with all that.  I've never viewed the world as "pagan-and-other" just "pagan-and-also."  Plenty of room for all perspectives in my little corner of the universe. Here's a picture of a guy in Germany who managed to catch the Easter bunny hot, um, pawed, rummaging through his house on Easter morning:Silly rabbit, trix are for kids.

At our house, the Easter bunny brings us candy baskets and we have an egg hunt.  Up until a couple of years ago we had two egg hunts:  dyed boiled egg hunt and scavenger hunt with fancy metal versions Faberge Eggs where one of us gets a BIG pressie at the end of the search.  This year was my son's turn.  (Last year was my turn.  I almost soaked my pressie with plant water. Tad hid the holy trinity of Simon Pegg movies~Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Run Fat Boy Run, amen~under some flowers in the diningroom.  Clever, but not very smart considering my talent for destruction.)
This year, I had to do some fancy footwork just to convince my 16-year-old to be home on Sunday.  It's funny how a family can do the same exact traditions every year, then suddenly the hormones kick in and their minds go utterly blank.
"So, come home Saturday night okay?"
"Why?"
"Sunday is Easter."
"So?"
"It's family time.  Remember? Egg hunt, etc."
"I already know what I'm getting for Easter.  Dad's giving me texting."
Sigh.  "Okay, but you don't know what the Easter bunny's bringing you...."
Scoff.  "So I can't go out all weekend?"
Arggh.  "No, I didn't say that.  You can go out Friday and Saturday, just come home, SLEEP IN YOUR OWN BED, and be with us in the morning so we can spend some time together."
Scowl.  "Fine.  Whatever."
Ahhh.  The sweet blessings of children.  So, he DID, in fact come home and we did have a lovely morning of exceedingly unhealthy thick cut bacon and pancakes for breakfast.  He did his scavenger hunt (which required a great deal of assistance...he's not exactly a 'hunter') and he procured his Gorillaz cd, which Tad spent the next hour attempting to wrest from him to download into his ipod.  (Did I remember to mention the part where Tad removed his chocolate bunny from his basket and sang Peter Cottontail while making the bunny bounce along the porch railing as my son hunted for eggies outside?  Yeah.  For those who know what my husband looks like, this is highly amusing.  6' 2", 250lbs, bald with handlebar stache, earrings and tattoos up both arms.  Singing.  Bouncing a chocolate bunny.  Priceless.

Daily A~Musing #53: Fun Slippers

I know we're slowly crawling out of the cold winter season and the concept of slippers may be drifting back into the recesses of northern consciousness, but I just gotta say it.  Slippers make my feet happy.

The important thing to remember is that happy feet usually equal happy person.  As many of you know, I'm a big fan of cute shoes.  And, being semi-girly in certain circumstances, my experience has led me to often equate the cutest of shoes with an intensity of discomfort and inconvenience.  However, any fashionista knows, it's totally worth it if they look good.  Don't ask me what portion of many female brains allows this to be a truth because I'm not a scientist.  I'm just a shoe lover.

The good news is, we can always come home, kick off our pointy heels and ease into some comfy slippers for the evening.  My slipper adoration began with Cookie Monster slippers.  Once I had those furry blue critters on my feetsies, I knew it was all over but the cryin'.  I couldn't stop.  I continued to seek fulfillment of my fun & fuzzy slipper fetish.  I've had bear claw slippers, bunny slippers, silly slippers and serious slippers.  As it stands, I am currently sans slippers and this is SO not the way for me to be.  I've been doing slipper research since February (when I was forced to relinquish my sheepie slippers because I could no longer deny they had reached their ultimate demise).

I implore you, my wonderful Puddlewackers, to assist me in my quest for cute slippers.  I have included pictorial prompters to guide you in my selection process.  I ask you to review the contenders and give me input as to which pairs of adorable footwear should become my next purchase:

#1:  Puppy Slippers.  The appeal of these is twofold:  I love the doggies and I also enjoy the insinuation of "dogs" wearing dogs.
#2:  Gator/Croc Slippers.  The appeal of these should be obvious...I could run around attacking people with my gator/croc teef.  muAHHAHhahaaaaa!

#3:  Dragon Slippers.  I mean, come on...you all KNOW how much I LOVE dragons.
#4:  Kitty Slippers.  I own a pair of kitty shoes, so it seemed that kitty slippers may be apropos.
#5:  Grizzly Paw Slippers.  Classic and cool.  Also good for freaking out the pets.

#6:  Godzilla Feet Slippers.  Again, good for freaking out the pets.  And for stomping around the house going, "Arrrggghhhh!!!!!"

#7:  Freudian Slippers.  Seriously...need I say more?  The irony is palpable.

So, whatdya guys think?  Which pair should I pursue?

Daily A~Musing #52: Peeps Shows

My husband sent me a link to see this because he knows I'm a total dork and that I would enjoy it immensely.  Therefore, in the spirit of Ostara (Easter) I give you:  "Peeps Shows."

You can compete in this diorama challenge yourself!  Check out this year's winner and consider what you might create for next year's.  Imagine it...you could create this sugar-coated sculpture and make your mark on Peep History.  Go for it!!

Daily A~Musing #51: Clean Clothes

I hate doing laundry.  I mean, I hate doing most housework-type-oriented things, but I hate laundry as much as I hate cleaning toilets.  In fact, now that I ponder it, I'd rather clean toilets.  Takes way less time, I get to wear funky rubber gloves and I don't have to lug huge, heavy baskets of crap up and down, up and down the stairs.
Having said that, I do~for obvious reasons~enjoy having clean clothes.  I like smelling April fresh and I like having more than one outfit in my closet from which to choose when I get dressed in the morning.  The unfortunate twist is that, as I really detest the chore, I habitually do just enough to get me through the work week.  This slacker behavior produces mounds of unsavory items strewn about on my boudoir floor upon which my cats and my dog like to create snug little nests.  The furry people use these nests for afternoon napping and for inundating my clothes with as much pet hair as possible.  (You ever notice when you lay out an outfit for the day that, no matter where in the whole house your cat may be, they magickally appear ~SHHHHHHHHOOOOOMP!!!~sitting directly upon said outfit?)  I count myself as quite fortunate that they've never yet chosen to defile my discarded clothing with anything other than fur, but I'm knocking on wood as I speak.  One never knows with pets.  They don't get out much and have few hobbies, so I just know that someday they'll be sitting around the house, bored, and decide to engage in some wicked shenanigans just to entertain themselves.  Then they snicker behind their little paws as they observe me launching into nasty tirades over things that would never have happened had I been fastidiously laundering in the first place.  Oi.

There is something special, though, about those rare moments when I find the motivation to go that extra mile and do ALL of my laundry at one time.  There's something peaceful and relaxing about pulling open my drawer to neatly folded clean undies and socks and swinging open my closet doors to rows of smooth, tidy clothing hung and folded in an orderly fashion.  It's kindasorta zen, you know?  The act metaphorically taps into some sorta spiritual cleansing.  I feel like having all my clothes clean and put away makes the world bigger, better and more friendly.  Dunno why.  I just do.
