Daily A~Musing #15:  Courting Candles

If you were an early American lad interested in a neighborhood lassie, you might spend some time at her home and with her family members in an attempt to woo her.  If you were a young man with status and financial security, dad would likely crank this candle up to give you PLENTY of time to pay attention to his darling daughter.  

However...


If you were a shady character or just not the kind of prospect dad had in mind, you might (quite literally) get the short end of the candlestick.


I used to see these nifty little candleholders all the time and always wondered what they were all about.  When I discovered their purpose, I just thought it was a lovely notion.
